signature kitchens & baths, winter 2005. a transformation.

winter_sig2009

This original kitchen, built in the mid-1980s, had a framed wall pantry with door, partial bulkheads, a two-level box island, matching fluorescent box lights and dark oak cabinets. The homeowners, who enjoy the outdoors and casual entertaining, desired to remodel the space to open the area, provide better lighting and ease the transition into the family room. They also desired additional counter space, accessories and light-toned cabinetry. In order to achieve this tall order, the homeowners called on the expertise of the AIM Kitchen & Bath staff.

AIM transformed the space by removing the framed pantry and adding a large cabinet pantry in its place. AIM also reconfigured the refrigerator wall to create more counter space, extended the sink wall, lowered the island top to one level and removed the railing separating the kitchen and family room. To add depth and dimension, AIM mixed the cabinet heights, opened the bulkheads and added tile backsplash accents.

A well-executed lighting plan is one of the room's more subtle, yet striking elements. Back lighting, undercounter lighting, recessed cans and decorative pendants all contrubute to the room's ambiance. Large 16 x 16 floor tiles, a toe-kick dust pan, trash cabinet and wine rack add the finishing touches.
