Although this kitchen in West Des Moines, Iowa, was not completely gutted, it was totally remodeled to complement these homeowners' current lifestyle. Since they love to cook and entertain, the current space wouldn't cut it, as it badly needed more functionality and better traffic flow.
Peter E. Gersdorf of AIM Kitchen & Bath had to work in the existing footprint and yet increase the usable storage and create a user-friendly beverage center and cooking zone. The original hardwood floors remained in place, and he designed the new kitchen around the built-in Sub-Zero fridge and Wolf cooking appliances. To ensure the new space flowed visually, the designer matched the cabinetry stain to the owners' built-in entertainment center in the next room.
This design boasts quite a few custom features as well, such as the long island with a round table top and custom stain. The island's table area is the perfect venue for enjoying a cup of java in the morning or enjoying a meal with friends. The custom beverage center keeps drinks in easy reach. In the end, the kitchen was the perfect melding of form and function, providing the homeowners a great place to host gatherings and prepare meals with ease.
