While they're not big entertainers, this foursome hailing from West Des Moines, Iowa, is big on spending lots of time in their kitchen. They craved a well-finessed room that married form and function while supplying a show-stopping venue. On their shortlist of designers was Fred E. Hulten of AIM Kitchen & Bath, whom they tapped to devise a refine redo.
After gutting the timeworn layout, AIM's topmost priority was infusing the standard-issue bulkhead over the sink with anything-but-standard style. The decision to incorporate an arched bulkhead highlighted with wood trim dexterously addressed the issue while permeating the space with instant charm and exclusivity.
Instead of a typical stainless steel sink, AIM and the homeowner opted instead for a dark basin set off by a darkly hued granite. Other notable components include the stone backsplash, concealed outlets and switches, and island with cooktop for family-friendly meal-making, and handy spice racks in the cabinetry. AIM's use of two different granites, complementary stains, and painted cabinets amplifies the pepped-up aesthetic and makes this kitchen as pleasant to look at as it is to use.
